The Dilettante
This is sort of like Leonard Cohen’s “I’m Your Man”—a song about being so desperate for companionship and validity that you’re willing to allow someone take control of your identity. The riff came to me in a dream. I wrote, recorded and produced this song and made the music video. Most of the art is mine.
(See if you can catch all the references, from the Annie Hall opening monologue to St. Vincent’s “Los Ageless”!)
“Ode to Broken Things” by Pablo Neruda
The song is “Mina Niñita” by the Chilean folk-rock band Los Jaivas. I chose it because it felt like the poem: melancholic, achingly beautiful in an quotidian way, and…fragile.
Fake Mod
A parody of 1960s mod-era fashion videos, such as Rudi Gernreich’s “Basic Black”. My eyeliner is terrible, but I tried to make it work with the trippy, Aronofsky-esque mirror sequences.
